As a valuable crop, potatoes are rich in vitamins and amino acids, as well as various trace elements and starch, which help to slow down aging, enhance beauty, and promote skin health. They also have the beneficial effects of lowering blood pressure and reducing blood lipids.

This issue’s China Agricultural Chemicals field reporter has arrived at a potato farm in Zhangbei County. At present, potatoes in Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, are enjoying a bountiful harvest. Farmers are seizing the favorable weather to accelerate harvesting, with harvesters shuttling back and forth across the fields, depositing smooth, plump, golden-yellow, and tender potatoes along the ridges. Workers are busy sorting, basketting, and packing the produce to ensure that the fresh potatoes are promptly loaded onto trucks for sale, creating a bustling scene of abundance.

In the golden autumn season, when the harvest is abundant, we first visited Mr. Liu’s potato farm. According to Mr. Liu, after using GenTu No. 1 bucket fertilizer, the potatoes grew uniformly in size, with yields increasing from about 6,000 jin per mu to roughly 9,000 jin per mu—a truly impressive boost. He expressed his intention to continue using our product next year as well.

Next, we visited Mr. Qiao’s miniature potato cultivation base. According to Mr. Qiao, the miniature potatoes grown with our product exhibit remarkable growth and development: the plants are robust, and the leaves are virtually free of disease. Mr. Qiao is highly satisfied with the performance of our product.

Finally, we visited Mr. Bai’s potato farm. In the early stages, he applied a comprehensive nutrient fertilizer package consisting of milk enzyme foliar spray, “Root Soil No. 1” bucket fertilizer, and a 15-15-15 peptide enzyme formulation. From the seedling stage onward, the root system developed robustly; during the mid-growth phase, the leaves turned lush green and broad; and as harvest approached, the differences became even more pronounced.

[Autumn Base Fertilization] Why is autumn base fertilization recommended for fruit trees?

Fruit trees such as apple and pear trees expend substantial amounts of nutrients and water over the course of a year as they bloom, set fruit, produce new shoots and leaves, and develop expanding fruits and blossoms. A single tree may yield 200 to 300 jin of apples or pears in a year, with the branches and foliage adding another few hundred jin; all of these dry materials are synthesized from the water and nutrients absorbed by the root system. As everyone knows, vigorous trees produce larger fruits, while weak trees yield smaller ones—vigor in the tree reflects vigor in the roots, and weakness in the tree reflects weakness in the roots. Therefore, to cultivate a robust tree, one must first strengthen its roots.

Applying base fertilizer to fruit trees in early autumn offers numerous benefits!!!

The optimal temperature for leaf function is 18–25°C, with peak performance around 25°C. When the diurnal temperature range is large, the nutrients synthesized by the leaves are primarily allocated to storage. In September, daytime temperatures generally stay below 30°C but above 20°C, while nighttime temperatures typically hover in the teens Celsius; therefore, from a timing perspective, applying a base fertilizer in autumn is most advantageous starting in September.
